Extract from Evalution Report prepared by Silvergate Evaluations.

“Mr. Malcolm completed all qualifying academic requirements subsequent to his enrollment in University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg’s Doctor of Philosophy program. In July 2018, he completed examinations and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy. Mr. Malcolm has fulfilled the requirements in his area of concentration, Education, and has earned a diploma from the institute.
The requirements leading to a Doctor of Philosophy at University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg are substantially similar to the requirements leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States. Mr. Malcolm completed specialized study and research in his area of concentration, Education, as well as in other related subjects. His presentation of a thesis dissertation entitled, “The Impact of a Learning Study on the Practice of Experienced Physical Sciences Teachers Topic-Specific PCK in Stoichiometry” further demonstrates his competence and expertise in Education and related areas.
Upon reviewing Mr. Malcolm’s academic history and considering the completion of his dissertation, it becomes apparent that Mr. Malcolm has satisfied requirements substantially similar to those required toward the completion of a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States.
SUMMARY
On the basis of the credibility of University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, the number of years of study and research, the nature of the study and research, and related areas, it is the judgment of Silvergate Evaluations Inc. that Mr. Malcolm has attained the equivalent of a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree in Education from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States.”

Work-based Learning

In my career I have had many opportunities for work-based informal learning.  Informal learning is a type of learning that happens every day, whether we realize it or not. It is organic, unstructured, and learner-driven. Informal learning is the name given to learning that’s unstructured and takes place away from traditional, formal learning settings, like a classroom. It has no clear goals or set objectives as it’s often unplanned and self-directed by the learner.

Most of my informal learning has taken place under the following circumstances:

  • Workplace mentoring where I was paired with a more experienced colleague.
  • Seminars and workshops.
  • Volunteering where you learn on-site skills required for the project.

Skills developed through Informal Learning

I have developed skills/knowledge in the following areas through informal learning:

  • School Time-tabling using program ACTion
  • School Assessment Reporting using program Pencilbox
  • Materials Layout using program Quark.
  • Training Materials Development
  • Workshop Facilitation
  • Distance Education Principles
  • ABET Practitioner
  • Adult Learning Principles
  • Learning Programme Development according to standards
  • Skills Development Facilitator
  • Principles of Assessment
  • Developing Assessment Materials
  • Moderation of Assessment
  • Project Management
  • Basic Bookkeeping
  • Event Management
  • Public Relations

I attended Athlone Boys’ High School from 1983 to 1988.

Athlone Boys‘ High School is a boys-only high school located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was founded in 1915 and has been in continuous operation for over 100 years.
